Color management in Corel Draw 12

1 Preset of color management parameters

Select the Edit of CorelDraw? Edit? Menu color management (Management) command? Mac OS 9 and x) or tools? Tools? Menu color management? Color Management? Command? Pc version ?, you can call up the color management dialog box. The style of this dialog box is very unique. It uses a set of icons and arrows to depict CorelDraw's color management workflow (see Figure 1).

The method of using this dialog box is slightly different from that of most other dialog boxes. If you move the cursor around, the cursor will change to the shape of "small hand" from time to time; if you make the cursor temporarily stop at an element, the annotation information about the element will be displayed, and each icon has a corresponding description . Similarly, each arrow also has corresponding annotation information. These arrows can indicate whether color management is implemented in the indicated direction. As shown in Figure 1, selection arrow 1 means to turn on the monitor compensation, selection arrow 2 means to turn on the color management of the composite printer, selection arrow 3 means to turn on the color management of the color separation printer, and selection arrow 4 means to make your monitor simulate the composite printer Output, select arrow 5 to make your monitor simulate the output of color separation printer, select arrow 6 to make your composite printer simulate the output of color separation printer, select arrow 7 to open the color management of the imported file, select arrow 8 means to open the color management of the exported file, and the selection arrow 9 means to open the color management of all the images obtained from the scanner or digital camera.

To select a characteristic file, you can click the black triangle arrow below a device or function icon to pop up a menu listing the available characteristic files. Both Apple and PC versions of CorelDraw will search for ICC feature files along specific paths. In addition, you can also try to click each icon to see if you can call up the corresponding "Advanced Options" dialog box, but only three of the icons have advanced options, the rest do not.

The following describes each element in the dialog box and the necessary advanced options in detail. We will first introduce the icon in the center, then the monitor icon, and then introduce the remaining icons in a clockwise direction.

1) Internal RGB settings

The icon in the center represents the RGB editing color space used by CorelDraw. Its default state is inactive, because its characteristic file is the display characteristic file, so although the import, export, printer and scanner conversion operations can be carried out as usual, it does not do any display compensation.

It is worth emphasizing that internal RGB is assumed. The RGB source characteristic file works on all RGB objects, including the placed objects and the original CorelDraw objects. When saving a CorelDraw document, it cannot embed this feature file in the CoreIDraw document, so you need to select a feature file and always use it. If other people also use the CorelDraw document, and that person also needs accurate color management, you must tell them which characteristic file is selected for internal RGB. If the internal RGB characteristic file is changed when editing a CorelDraw document, the color characteristics of all RGB objects will immediately change according to the new characteristic file. But this is not a color conversion, just a change related to the assumed characteristic file, so the RGB value of the RGB object has not changed, but the meaning and appearance of its color have indeed changed.

2) Display settings

Here you can select the display characteristic file, here we choose the ICC file of the monitor we made ourselves earlier.

Click the mouse on the monitor icon to call up advanced display settings. If you have previously activated an arrow pointing to a monitor icon from a composite color printer or color separation printer, the "Highlight colors beyond the print gamut" option in this dialog box will become selectable. As the name implies, if the colors of the simulated display cannot be printed on the output device, CorelDraw will display those colors with a special warning color.

If we want the screen display to simulate a composite printer, then we choose arrows 2 and 4. If we want the screen to display a simulated color separation printer, we choose arrows 3 and 5. If the arrow is from the middle RGB icon, CorelDraw only performs the display compensation process from the internal RGB to the display characteristic file. [next]

3) Compound printer settings

This can be either an RGB characteristic file or a CMYK characteristic file. CorelDraw supports pure RGB to RGB flow, and also supports CMYK to RGB flow. Here we can choose the printer ICC file we made earlier. If you want the composite printer to simulate the effect of the color separation printer, just click the arrow 6 and the arrow 2 can be deactivated.

4) Import / export settings

In the default state, there is no characteristic file selected for the icon. Click the icon with the mouse to call up the advanced import / export settings dialog box. The first thing to note is that this dialog only works with RGB objects. When introducing a CMYK object, CorelDraw ignores its embedded feature file and changes it to a color printer feature file.

The purpose of the advanced import / export settings dialog is to control the way people use and use characteristic files during the export process. We recommend using the first option of the import and export sections separately, that is, the import section uses the embedded ICC feature file option and the export section uses the embedded RGB feature file option.

5) Scanner / digital camera settings

The characteristic file you selected here will be used as the source characteristic file of the image obtained by using the Get Image command in the File menu. If the internal RGB and the profile file set by the scanner / digital camera options are different, all images obtained with the Get Image command will be converted to the internal RGB color space.

6) Color separation printer settings

This option only involves CMYK characteristic files. Here we can select the ICC characteristic file of a specific printing machine we made. The profile you selected here will be used as the source profile for all CMYK objects. [next]

2 Print

In the preset dialog box of color management parameters, we set the ICC profile for each element, the color separation printer is set to our special printing machine ICC? The composite color printer is set to our printer ICC, and the display is set to our display ICC characteristics file.

If we want to print with a printer, choose arrow 2, if we want to print with a printing press, choose arrow 3, if we want to use a composite color printer to simulate the printing effect of a printing press, choose arrows 3 and 6, then arrow 2 will Cancel automatically.

The color separation printing in the print dialog box? The Print separatlons? Option is used to determine whether the color is converted to a color separation printer or a composite color printer.

The Miscellaneous? Misc? Tab in the print dialog has two options that are easily overlooked by everyone.

The first option is "Apply ICC profile". In the following two cases, the default state of this option is selected: the arrow in the color management dialog box is activated by the internal RGB icon pointing to the composite color printer icon, and the color separation printing is not selected? Print separations? Option; Activate the arrow from the internal RGB icon to the color separation printer icon in the color management dialog box, and the color separation printing? Print separations? Option has been selected.

The second is to print out RGB colors, you must pay attention to the "output color bitmap as" pop-up menu. Although you have selected an RGB profile for the composite color printer, and it has appeared below the option to apply ICC profile, if you have not selected the output color bitmap as "Output color bitmaps as?" In the pop-up menu "RGB" With this item, the image will be converted to CMYK or grayscale color mode. [next]

3 Summary

CorelDraw encourages us to work fully in CMYK color mode so that we can implement effective color management for the screen preview and proofing process. It can successfully carry out color management in the process of outputting some specific format files according to color management parameters and some concise rules. You can print a CMYK color image with an RGB printer, but the original CorelDraw object in CMYK mode prints the result but it does not necessarily meet your expectations.

In general, it is relatively easy to output the content after color management with CorelDraw, but it is very troublesome to manage the color of CorelDraw's own documents. The only way we can adopt is to manually record which RGB they used at the time of creation. And CMYK feature files.
