Modern artist 3D printing 1972 Honda CB500 motorcycle model

3D printing technology began in the 1980s and originated from the rapid prototyping technology of the US military. At that time, the US military realized that if 3D printing technology was applied to the military industry, its power would be amazing. Today, the technology has been used in a variety of industries, such as photography and dentistry. Recently, Canadian-born modern artist Jonathan Brand used a common Ultimaker 3D printer to perfectly replicate a 1972 Honda CB500 motorcycle in a 1:1 ratio! Although it is just a model, although it can't ride without a motor, it looks quite shocking.

Jonathan always hopes to have such a motorcycle, but due to the limited economic strength, he has been unable to do so. After the recent purchase of a motorcycle plan was defeated by his son's birth, Jonathan eventually turned to 3D printing. According to Jonathan, when he started the project, he was still a 3D print rookie. “I started playing 3D printing about three years ago, and soon I wanted to 3D print a complete simulation motorcycle,” he said. In his efforts, he managed to finally find his own dream motorcycle - Honda "CB500".

Designers chose Ultimaker when they bought 3D printers because they were one of the most innovative 3D printing companies of the time. “The earliest thing that made me interested in Ultimaker was about two years ago, when it had the largest build size and fast printing capabilities. It was also open source, so users could customize the parts of the Ultimaker3D printer, and all its source files are Can be found online. So I can achieve a high degree of customization of 3D printers according to my needs.” Designer Jonathan explained that the whole process involves designing and 3D printing hundreds of pieces of PLA material. “In order to maintain its transparency, I printed all the parts very thin. To do this, it takes longer to print.”
