Development of Toluidine New Technology in Zhejiang

The technology for the production of o-(p-)toluidine from the kT-class low-pressure liquid-phase catalytic hydrogenation of Zhejiang University of Technology has been successfully developed recently.
O-toluidine and toluidine are important chemical raw materials and are widely used in pesticides, pharmaceuticals, dyes, rubber, food additives and other fields. Most domestic companies use iron powder reduction method to produce. Zhejiang University of Technology began researching the new process for the reduction of toluidine by low-pressure liquid-phase catalytic hydrogenation from 1992. Compared with the Pharaoh process of iron powder, the new process product is of good quality, high yield, low cost, and the “three wastes” are reduced by more than 95%. The technology has reached the international advanced level.
This technical achievement has been undergoing pilot and industrial production in Zhangjiagang City since 1994 and has now reached a production capacity of 2,000 tons/year. This new technology has been listed in the national key scientific and technological achievements promotion program.
