Change color coffee cap becomes popular

One Australian's innovation comes from the Smart LidSystems Disposable Discolor Cover, which automatically changes color based on the temperature of the coffee in a paper or plastic coffee cup. Smart Lid's coffee cup lid is filled with a color-changing additive that changes from brown to red when placed on a cup full of hot beverages.

Nick Bayss, executive director of Smart Lid Systems, said: "With the development of disposable coffee cups, the boundaries between insulated cups (which used to refer only to foam cups) are becoming increasingly blurred." "Now paper cups are usually There are various layers of insulation, which means that consumers can't judge the temperature of the drinks inside with a simple touch. So, how do they test the temperature? Use their mouth! With Smart Lid System, consumers look The lid knows the temperature of the coffee, which also makes the color-changing lid the safest lid on the market today."

There is also a device that ensures that the lid is safely placed on the cup. When the cover is discolored, a black circle forms around it, indicating that it has been correctly placed on the cup.

The lid is made of unused high-strength PS (polystyrene) plastic and is blended with a color-changing additive from Matsui Intl. Approved by the US Food and Drug Administration to meet food contact requirements. In order to produce this kind of lid, Smart Lid Systems has signed a 20-year patent right transfer agreement with Rema Industries Services, an Australian company that produces disposable plates and cups, covering Australia and the Asia Pacific region. Bayss said that manufacturers in Europe and the United States have also expressed interest in the system, but have not signed any agreements.

Regarding the style of Smart Lid, since it does not require reinstalling the device, the lid can be either a flat surface or a squat surface, and the size is not limited. Rema has already produced 8-, 12- and 16-oz sized lids for paper or foam cups for trial sales.

According to Bayss, although the lids can change color at any temperature, Smart Lid Systems found that the lids begin to change color at temperatures between 100 and 113 degrees Fahrenheit, which best reflects the average temperature of hot drinks. When the lid cools, it will return to its original brown color.

Another aspect of Smart Lid Systems' promotion is that the lid can also be used as a marketing tool with an advertising message printed on it, which only appears when the lid is discolored. For example, a brown text is printed on the cover or on a transparent label, and it appears when the cover becomes hot and red.

Bayss said that in order to test consumers' reactions to color changing technology, Smart Lid Systems tested the lid in many cafes in Sydney and reacted strongly. Most people think that this idea is simply wonderful and meets people's needs. Many people also say that once the product is on the market, they will buy or use it.

Bayss said that although Smart Lid Systems' first attempt in the field of color-changing packaging focused on coffee, there are still many areas where this technology can be used because consumers will buy more and more food and beverages for delivery. "At present, we are planning to develop an export soup market."
